Who am I again?
My only light, my friend
Warping all my time now
And I begin to fray
Wasted potential, good intentions, oh
Waiting around, feel I’m out of bounds, oh
Staying behind, finding my way
Cut loose from me, nothing to me (To me, yeah)
I’ll do this on my own
I don’t want to climb these walls
Done it too many times
So why should I?
Because I warp through the plasma glass
Trying to carve out my own path
And I don’t wanna waste my days
Just to leave and break away
On and on again
Just keep me out the Sun
Only might I go
You’ll see me hiding low
I’m so lost, been without a place
Make sure to shine the light
I haven’t seen the world that way
My own confine, tell me white lies
Woah, oh
Back up, silence, always something
Woah, oh
I’ll find a way to break back out
Because I warp through the plasma glass
Trying to carve out my own path
And I don’t wanna waste my days
Just to leave and break away
(Na, na, na na na)
(Ooh, woah, oh)
I warp through the plasma glass
I always seem to run
Around and around
Cursing out the Sun
nd I don’t want just memories
I want forever
Experimental label and creative collective Tabula Rasa releases their first compilation titled "Here & Now", featuring friends of the label such as Gaszia, Kelbin, Kinoteki, label co-head RamonPang, label founder Jozef White, and Thys of esteemed dance music group Noisia. Making its debut on May 5th, Tabula Rasa: Here & Now is the label’s sonic statement of intent. This compilation highlights their family of artists and draws from genres such as UK Garage, breaks, pop, footwork, “IDM” (intelligent dance music), and techno.
Tabula Rasa—meaning “blank slate” in Latin—channels the ethos of a better, more equitable way forward for all. In Here & Now, RamonPang and Jozef White showcase the future-proofed electronica they have pushed since the label’s inception in February 2020. Tabula Rasa is a conceptual playground where wiping the slate clean and starting over is an option, whether in tech, music, visual art, or any other area in which people take the present and historical frameworks for granted.
Tabula Rasa founder Jozef White outlines the mission of the compilation and its title, Here & Now. "I want listeners to find, through this record, a moment of appreciation for the present in spite of all the chaos, conflict, and controversy. What I think we want to convey is that there is an overwhelming amount of joy, fun, and room for expression and that there are so many creative and thoughtful people willing and ready to make this present moment amazing if only we could just take the time to focus on aligning towards this end. Here & Now is a message about what can be accomplished by creative and dedicated individuals when, even loosely, they are all intentionally headed in the same direction, and the moments of bliss that result."
Co-head of the label RamonPang expands—"at the core of it, Here & Now is our first compilation album and a statement of our label’s “sound” in a nutshell. Every sound, style, and emotion in this album has, in a sense, already been done on something we’ve released before, but the interesting part is the juxtaposition when put next to each other. Jozef and I have been building this sound over the past three years, and this is the most ‘concise’ way we can release it in a way that feels the most authentic—done in the spirit of collaboration."
Tabula Rasa will celebrate Here & Now with a New York release party on June 9th, 2023. RamonPang and Gaszia will play for the first time in New York, and label breakouts Kinoteki and ROBY are set to make their world debut with their performances at the Tabula Rasa Records: Here & Now Release Party at Trans-Pecos (9-15 Wyckoff Ave, Ridgewood, Queens, NYC, New York). Highlighting the unique creative concepts that shape the label, the Here & Now release party further extends this forward-thinking approach to timeless music.
